The card workshops I run are mini-fundraisers for this charity. Most workshops generate enough funds for a microchip for a dog or a month of food for a foster family.

Stay warm and look fabulous this coming autumn! So I took a Fair Isle sweater that I loved but was too small on me, repurposed it...and voila! The material is in the prettiest shades of: turquoise, purple, cream, and green. The fabric consists of: 35% acrylic, 28% nylon, 20% lambs wool, 12% rayon, and 5% angora rabbit hair (whew!). The cowl measures about 28" around and 6" high. The scarf is slightly asymmetrical in the way that it's been cut and the edges sewn up.

For the month of September 15% from this sale will go to help the rescued chimps at MONA in Spain (http://www.mona-uk.org). They save chimps and other primates that were in private homes or the "entertainment" industry.

Cat Tote/ Handpainted by Catcalls' Shop

This original design art tote was created entirely from recycled materials. The denim was painted with acrylic, the cat was cut from heavy cotton then painted, stitched and appliqued on as were the letters. The inside and handles are made from purple and lime flannel. Two pockets were sewn to the interior. It is finished with a clear acrylic spray. This is a very sturdy and durable tote.

I am a regular supporter of my local humane society through cage sponsorship and will be participating in their annual fund raiser dog walk on Sept. 19th. I hope to raise a good amount through the raffle I will be holding. I can't wait! 10% of this sale will go to Defenders of Wildlife, the Etsy for Animals Charity of the Month for September.

Besides COTM, my focus today is on my personal Cat Rescue and Preservation Program. William Henry, our youngest formerly feral kitten, keeps getting himself locked under the kitchen sink with the garbage can. While this is a Dream Come True for William Henry, it is a less than ideal situation for me.

I started making these scrappy stockings and am hooked - they are so much fun and I'm planning to spend a very long and happy weekend cutting, pasting and sewing - it makes such a change from cutting and pasting on the computer! I've been collecting Christmas fabrics for the past 20 years and it's just so good to mix and match them all together. I'm hoping my efforts will benefit the SSPCA - that's the Scottish Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals. My reason is that I called them just a week ago to come and help an injured goose I found while out walking. Sadly, it appeared to me that both it's legs had been broken. It was at least a mile away from a road, up a hill and on an unmade path. Within a couple of hours I received a phone call to say the animal was so badly injured that they had put it to sleep. I was so impressed with their response time and the consideration they gave the animal. I was very sad after hearing the news but so grateful to the SSPCA - they spared this poor bird suffering a very prolonged and painful death.

This Teeny Wienie is the latest addition to my Dachshund plush toys. It is a smaller, skinnier plushy version of Doxies than my larger ones and is made from a scrap of a scrap! The other scrap part was made into a puppy pouch. The ears are leftover from a pair of pants made a while back. My September Scraps entry is a digital scrap as it is a print of a photo that I took last fall. This image has been refurbished as a card, which I have titled "Drop Me A Line". I punched a lacey motif in the matte print and adhered it to a folded card, which has been dyed golden yellow along the bottom edge to bring out the yellow in the leaves. I was making up some kits for a birthday card making workshop. I run these workshops for SOAR: the Southern Ontario Animal Rescue which is a small, volunteer-run charity. I design and pre-cut all the cards and the participants come to complete them. They pay a workshop fee and half of it goes to SOAR. I often hold a raffle too at these events where all of the raffle proceeds go to SOAR. One of the cards in my kits were giant cupcake cards which used this paper (you can see one here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/54643233/big-glitter-cupcake-birthday-card). So, I had some strips of paper left. I cut the strips to fit the thank-you cards, hand-stamped them and voila! – 5 mini-thank-you cards were born.

Had lost my sweet Rockie girl (and inspiration for my blankets) in October but not ready to get another pup yet. Got the call for emergency foster homes needed for one week, went to pick up my foster dog and who do I see but Mana - a Cattle Dog like Rockie, a female and 7 years old. Fostering lasted 2 days and we adopted her on the third day. Didn't think I was ready but she is healing my heart with each day.

Teal Skies Silver Ring by Littlestudiojewels' Shop

This is sweet, yet sort of Steam Punk all at the same time. It's great for the office, or a sexy night out! I used sterling silver wire to make a comfortable shank, adding a teal Swarovski crystal to the center. I then coiled more sterling silver wire around the base wire and added 2 clear Swarovski crystals to the outside of the teal bead, coiling the remainder of the wire on the sides. The result is a coiled ring that is pretty, yet different. You could keep it shiny, or allow it to patina and darken naturally, giving it a worn look for a more "Steam Punk" style.

This is about a size 6-1/2, but I can make it in another size if you need it. I can even make it with different beads, or in copper or 14karat gold-filled wire, convo me before purchasing for details.

When I saw the theme, Look to the Skies, I couldn't resist making some guinea pigs flutter up! Little pink wings take these guinea pigs on a flutter around the yard! The guinea pigs have been stamped, then I watercolored them by hand. Can't you just imagine the sound of their "Wheek Wheek" calls as they zoom through the air? In my etsy shop I have many items designated as charity benefit items with all the money I make from those particular items going directly to the EFA Charity of the Month. I often look at photos to calm myself when I'm stressed & it really works well, especially of the skies or nature. I have lots of other photos of the sky, as it's one of my fav subjects to shoot. My husband rolls his eyes whenever the sun sets, as he knows I'll he beaded out the door, looking for the next beautiful view to capture. I want to get as many of them as possible. I think of making a book or zine of them soon, sometime. I wanna show the people more of the natural world, so they will care for it better. It's my life goal. Get folks to change their minds and take better care of the earth.

Itty Bitty Pelican - Hand Knit Organic Cotton Limited Edition Toy to Help the Gulf Coast by Yarnmiracle's shop

He's a bird, so it seems like he fits the "Look to the Skies" theme perfectly - what with all the powerful flying and diving and scooping up fish. This particular pelican won't fly as high as his wild cousins, but if you toss him up in the air, he will do his best to *imagine* soaring through the sky.

Since it's very beginning, my shop has been a way for me to support the rescue and adoption efforts of our local Humane Society. For each of my hand knit Companion Animals or Itty Bitty Playsets that sells, I donate $5 directly to Baldwin Animal Rescue. We also foster animals through that organization and help with adoption events as we are able. That happens less now that I have a toddler with a naptime smack in the middle of most adoptions, but I can at least still offer financial support!

The woman on this romantic pendant is looking towards the sky. It's a vintage picture from a book and I thought it was a perfect match for the theme. It measures 1 x 2 inches or 2.5 x 5 cms. approx. carefully applied to high quality crystal glass with a bevelled edge. At the moment I am helping a friend d'Artagnan Rumblepurr to raise funds for SPCA and Cats Protection here in New Zealand and sell pendants in my store with 100% to either EFA COTM or a local charity in need. I also promote charities in need on Twitter and help out sharing on Facebook.

"Look to the Skies" the hints of gold are like a majestic eagle and the blue and white are like a beautiful, wide expanse of sky with little puffy clouds in it. The criss-cross design also makes me think of a bird's wings, emanating out from its body, so powerful and graceful, as it flies through the sky.
I am actually a full-time middle school teacher, so I mostly work with 11- and 12-year old human animals! I do have 2 rescue kitties, one of which was featured by Michele last month or so (Noah). I also would LOVE to be able to donate all proceeds from any items sold on Etsy to the team charity of the month to be able to help more animals and organizations in need.

A portion of the profits from this sale benefit the World Wildlife Fund. The company I work for is currently assisting with rescueing birds/turtles from the gulf oil crisis (being a zookeeper - we all asist with this effort). And in my spare time, aside from runnig my etsy pages for various charitys, I volunteer with a local pet organization Tampapets.org.
